Columbine copycat?
The week's news at a glance.
Ulster, N.Y.
A New York man obsessed with the Columbine High School shootings opened fire in a crowded mall this week, wounding two people. The suspect, Robert Bonelli Jr., 24, had piles of newspaper clippings on Columbine in his bedroom, and a prosecutor suggested that the 1999 massacre might have inspired the rampage. Witnesses said Bonelli calmly walked into a Best Buy store, dressed in black, and began firing an assault rifle. Shoppers ran screaming, or dived for cover. Bonelli then walked into the main mall and opened fire again. Workers tackled him when he ran out of bullets. Robert Bonelli Sr. said his son was “a good person crying out for help.”
