Washington, D.C.
A Continental Airlines flight from Washington to Houston was canceled this week because of a threat that it might be targeted by terrorists. The flight was due to land at Bush Intercontinental Airport while the Super Bowl was being played at Reliant Stadium, 27 miles away. FBI agent Bob Doguim said intelligence reports did not indicate the stadium was a target, but “better to be safe than sorry.” The incident marked the first time a domestic airliner was grounded during a recent flurry of threats uncovered by intelligence agencies. Ten flights from Europe to the U.S. were canceled within a day of the Houston flight.
