Jittery students return
The week's news at a glance.
Grove City, Ohio
Children returned to schools in Grove City, Ohio, this week for the first time since police linked bullet marks found on two school buses to a string of recent highway shootings. Bullets have hit 18 cars and trucks on or near Interstate 270 near Columbus in recent months. One woman, a passenger in a car traveling on the highway, was killed in November. The South-West City School District canceled classes on Dec. 18 and 19, the last two days before the holiday break, and only allowed its 20,000 students to return after tighter safety measures, such as increased security patrols, were in place. Many parents still refused to put their kids onto buses. “They’re safer with me,” Amy Stainer said after dropping off her two children.
