Israeli strikes
The week's news at a glance.
Gaza Strip
Israel launched airstrikes on Gaza this week after a Palestinian ambush killed three Israeli soldiers. The airstrikes—which killed 10 Palestinians and wounded dozens, many of them children—drew condemnation from the Israeli opposition as well as from Arab countries. The strikes also destroyed several Hamas weapons labs that were packed with explosives. Both sides remained defiant. The leaders of the Palestinian terrorist groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad said they were joining forces to “confront the Zionist aggression,” while Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said the Israeli army would “continue to act to foil terror attacks.”
