Showman mauled
The week's news at a glance.
Las Vegas
Magician Roy Horn of Siegfried & Roy was critically injured in Las Vegas this week when a 600-pound white tiger mauled him onstage. The tiger first grabbed Horn’s arm in its teeth. Horn rapped its cheek and said no. The tiger then lunged for his neck and dragged him offstage. “Horn looked like a rag doll in the tiger’s mouth,” a member of the audience said. The tiger, named Montecore, let go when a carpenter sprayed it with a fire extinguisher. Horn, 59, had to be resuscitated during surgery, and suffered a stroke. Doctors said he might never perform again. Horn and his partner, Siegfried Fischbacher, have performed their blend of illusions and tiger stunts for decades.
