Prince spears tiny deer

Animal-rights activists denounced Prince William for killing an African antelope in Kenya last week. The prince, 21, spent a week taking lessons from a young Masai warrior in hunting with spears. On his first outing, he speared a little dik-dik, a type of miniature deer that stands just 14 inches tall, killing it with just one throw. “He picked it up by the tail and presented it to me,” the warrior, Legei, told the London Mail on Sunday. “I was proud of him.” Animal-rights activists, though, were appalled. “The idea that our future king is going to glory in killing animals depresses me greatly,” said Carla Lane, a prominent campaigner against fox hunting. Back home in Britain, William has been known to go stag hunting, a sport popular among monarchs.
