Blair accused
The week's news at a glance.
Athens
Greek lawyers have filed a lawsuit at the International Criminal Court in The Hague charging British Prime Minister Tony Blair with war crimes in Iraq. The 47-page document accuses Britain and the U.S. of violating international law and of intending to cause “major physical or psychological damage to individuals who enjoy the protection of the Geneva Convention.” No American is named because the U.S. has not ratified the ICC treaty. Dimitris Paxinos, chairman of the Athens Bar Association and the man behind the lawsuit, is no stranger to controversy. During the Yugoslav wars, he was a fervent supporter of Radovan Karadzic, the Bosnian Serb leader indicted for genocide and torture.
