Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
Eighteen Afghan prisoners were released this week from the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. American authorities flew the men back to Afghanistan, where they had been captured during the fight against al Qaida and the Taliban. “They no longer posed a terrorist threat,” said a spokesman for the Afghan government. Three other prisoners were sent home in October. There are still 660 men being detained and interrogated at Guantanamo. Another 30 prisoners arrived days after the group of 18 went home.
