Education brawl

Angry teachers this week roughed up Canada’s education minister, Elizabeth Witmer, to protest shrinking school budgets. Jeering protesters swarmed Witmer after she made a brief speech to the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association. Some of the rowdies covered their heads with paper bags emblazoned with the slogan, “A Once Proud Ontario Teacher.” Several people shoved Witmer, one threw a cup of water on her, and another punched her. Witmer downplayed the incident, saying those involved “certainly don’t represent the rank-and-file teacher.”
