Bin Laden threatens
The week's news at a glance.
Doha, Qatar
The Arab satellite station Al Jazeera has broadcast a tape of a voice it says is Osama bin Laden’s, warning of more attacks on Americans. “By Allah, the youths of Allah are preparing things for you that will fill your hearts with terror,” the voice said. It pledged to “target your economic lifeline until you stop your oppression and aggression.” Al Jazeera said it received the tape this week but could not determine when it was recorded. Bin Laden has not been definitively sighted since last December, just before the U.S. bombed his cave complex in Afghanistan, and he could be dead. The London Observer reported, though, that a U.S. satellite intercept picked up his voice on the phone just last month.
