Kids kill neighbor
The week's news at a glance.
Milwaukee
A mob of boys, one just 10 years old, allegedly beat a man to death with broomsticks, folding chairs, and a baby stroller last week. One of the boys started the fatal confrontation when he threw an egg at 36-year-old passerby Charlie Young Jr. Young socked the boy in the mouth, knocking out a tooth. Police said eight teenagers and the 10-year-old gathered in an alley, collected weapons, and pounced on Young when he walked by. The attack shocked the rough neighborhood where Young died, and local politicians said the boys’ families failed them. Not so, said the father of the youngest boy. “They’re making a butcher out of a 10-year-old boy,” he said. “Kids are going to be kids.”
