GOOD DAY FOR: Loonie spending, as the Canadian dollar, or loonie, reached 1 to 1 parity with the U.S. for the first time since 1976. The weak greenback has Canadians bargain shopping in the U.S., but it’s bad for U.S. importers. And U.S. tourists. The dollar also fell to an all-time low of more than $1.40 against the euro. BAD DAY FOR: Good intentions, as California recalled 300,000 Chinese-made lunchboxes it had passed out to promote healthy eating. At least some of the lunch coolers contained unsafe levels of lead. “It's unfortunate that an item we’re using hopefully to promote healthy behavior is discovered itself to be a potential health hazard,” said state health director Dr. Mark Horton.
