England cricketer Ben Stokes has been ruled out of tomorrow’s one-day international match against the West Indies after it was revealed the 26-year-old was arrested in Bristol.

The all-rounder was detained by Bristol police in the early hours of Monday morning following an incident in the city centre which also involved team-mate Alex Hales. Earlier on Sunday, England had beaten the Windies by 124 runs in the third ODI in Bristol.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Stokes has had an X-ray on his hand. The BBC says he was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm outside a nightclub at 2.35am on Monday.

Strauss said: “Ben Stokes and Alex Hales will not be available for tomorrow’s one-day international match against West Indies at The Oval.

“Stokes was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning, 25 September, following an incident in Bristol.

“He was held overnight and released under investigation – without charge – late on Monday and will not join the team in London.

Strauss said that Hales, who was with Stokes on Sunday night, “did not train this morning and has returned voluntarily to Bristol today to help police with their enquiries”.

England lead the West Indies 2-0 in the five-match ODI series. Tomorrow’s match starts at 12.30pm.
