9/11 ANNIVERSARY: 'CREDIBLE THREAT' ALERTThe US media last night broadcast a "specific, credible threat" warning from the Department of Homeland Security of an impending terrorist attack. The threat, on the anniversary of 9/11, is aimed at New York or Washington and might involve a truck bomb. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said security would be boosted on New York's bridges and subways. INTERPOL ISSUES GADDAFI ARREST WARRANTInterpol has issued arrest warrants for deposed Libyan leader Col Gaddafi (above), his son Saif al-Islam and spy chief Abdullah al-Sanussi. They are accused of war crimes. Meanwhile, one of Gaddafi's most senior generals, Ali Kana, is said to have fled to Niger as the NTC's Saturday ultimatum for loyalist troops to surrender approaches. THOUSANDS TURN OUT FOR DUGGAN FUNERALThousands of people turned out in north London for the funeral of Mark Duggan, the man whose death in a police shooting sparked riots across England last month. The body of the 29-year-old father of four was carried through Tottenham by horse-drawn carriage. Tottenham MP David Lammy had earlier criticised the police for leaving Duggan's family "floundering" after his death. BAHA MOUSA: SOLDIERS FACE PROSPECT OF CHARGESNineteen soldiers could face criminal charges for their role in the death of innocent Iraqi Baha Mousa following yesterday's finding by a public inquiry that he was the victim of "appalling and cowardly" violence while in British custody. Of the 90,000 rugby fans expected from abroad, almost a quarter will be British. David Cameron said in a speech today that the government's review of social policy was considering the move as part of its attempts to mend "broken Britain" and restore discipline. SATELLITE SET TO FALL FROM SPACESpace agency Nasa has warned that a 20-year-old satellite, sent in to orbit to study climate change, is about to fall to earth and could rain debris over densley populated parts of the planet. Half a tonne of metal is likely to survive re-entry and could fall on any of the six continents. The footprint of the debris will be about 500 miles long. 'STOP POLITICAL CIRCUS' OBAMA TELLS CONGRESS President Obama told Congress last night to "stop the political circus" and pass a proposed American Jobs Act "right away". His $447 billion package included spending on infrastructure, transport and schools, and cuts in payroll tax - all designed to create new jobs. Republicans immediately dubbed it the Obama Re-Election Bill. The world is in its "sixth extinction event", losing more species than at any time since the dinosaurs, and because the "ultimate impact is plainly not at all clear to most people, we won't be able to survive ourselves". ANDY MURRAY REACHES US OPEN QUARTER-FINALSAndy Murray, world number four, reached the quarter finals of the US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York last night with a straight sets victory over the US wild card entrant Donald Young, 22, ranked 84th. Murray now faces the 28th seeded American, John Isner. Rafa Nadal meets Andy Roddick in the other rain-delayed quarter-final.
