SYRIANs protest as UN mission tours Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Syria today, shouting: "Gaddafi is gone, now it's your turn, Bashar!" The demonstrations come as a United Nations delegation tours the country. President Bashar al-Assad had ordered officials to clean up towns which have seen brutal crackdowns by security forces, but the Guardian reports that people have been approaching the UN mission and offering first-hand accounts of torture. X FACTOR WITHOUT COWELL REACHES 10.5MSaturday's opening episode of The X Factor, the first series without founder Simon Cowell as a judge, scored an audience of 10.5 million, according to initial figures from ITV1. Last year's opening show achieved 11.1 million, the highest in the show's history. Cowell's seat has been filled by Take That member Gary Barlow. SEYCHELLES KILLER SHARK WAS A GREAT WHITEThe shark which killed British honeymooner Ian Redmond off a beach in the Seychelles earlier this month has been identified as a Great White, the most dangerous species. A triangular tooth with serrated edges was recovered from Redmond's body and identified by shark experts called in from South Africa. RIHANNA AND EMINEM CLOSE V FESTIVALSinger Rihanna and rapper Eminem brought the V Festival at Chelmsford, Essex to a close last night to the wild applause of 80,000 fans. Rihanna performed the penultimate set in hot pants and a denim top tied at the waist before taking to the stage once more to duet with headliner Eminem on a stage decorated as a car scrapyard.
