1. JANE AUSTEN 'FACE' OF NEW £10 NOTE
The outgoing governor of the Bank of England, Sir Mervyn King, has revealed that the novelist Jane Austen will replace Charles Darwin on the £10 note when it is updated. There were fears women would disappear from bank notes after it was announced in April that Elizabeth Fry would be replaced by Winston Churchill on the £5 note.

2. SNOWDEN IN TRANSIT IN MOSCOW
Russian President Vladimir Putin says that whistleblower Edward Snowden is in the transit zone of a Moscow airport and will not be extradited to the United States despite demands by the White House. Speaking on a visit to Finland, Putin said Snowden hasn't crossed the Russian border and is free to go anywhere.

3. OBAMA TO LAUNCH CLIMATE POLICY
Barack Obama is due to unveil America's first climate change strategy this evening, cutting greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, shoring up coastlines against flooding, and helping advance an international climate deal. The US president has been attacked by environmentalists for not making climate change a priority as promised.
4. NHS SET TO OFFER BREAST CANCER PILL
Thousands of women across Britain with a family history of breast cancer will be offered drugs on the NHS to help prevent the disease, after guidance published today by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. NICE says that a five-year course of tamoxifen or raloxifene can cut breast cancer risk by up to 40%.

5. SAATCHI: I WAS CLEANING SNOT
Charles Saatchi claims he was trying to help Nigella Lawson clean some “snot” out of her nose when the couple were photographed arguing outside a London restaurant. The 70-year-old told the Evening Standard: “Even domestic goddesses sometimes have a bit of snot in their nose. I was trying to fish it out.”

6. GUNFIGHT AS KABUL PALACE ATTACKED
Insurgents have attacked the presidential palace and government buildings in Afghanistan. More than half a dozen explosions were heard at the palace's eastern gate in central Kabul. Police say all of the attackers were killed during a 90-minute gunfight. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

7. 'CRITICAL' MANDELA'S FAMILY GATHER IN SA
Nelson Mandela's daughters Maki and Zenani have travelled to Mthatha, near his Qunu home, reportedly to brief relatives on "sensitive family matters". The 94-year-old remains in a critical condition in a Pretoria hospital and several South African newspapers today began debating his legacy and how it must be "protected".
8. ROBSON SERVES UP A WIMBLEDON SHOCK
British number one tennis player Laura Robson provided the Wimbledon public with another big upset as she knocked out number ten seed Maria Kirilenko from Russia in straight sets. Robson, ranked 38 in the world, won 6-3, 6-4 to set up a second round clash with unseeded Colombian Mariana Duque Marino. Heather Watson was less successful and lost to American Madison Keys.

9. IAN BRADY: KILLINGS 'EXISTENTIAL'
Moors Murderer Ian Brady has described his crimes as an 'existential experience' and compared his actions to those of soldiers and politicians. The 75-year-old told a medical tribunal he wouldn't commit suicide if moved from high-security Ashworth hospital to a prison and said he was the victim of a conspiracy to make him appear insane.
