1. BLOODY SUNDAY TROOPS FACE ARREST

Police are to arrest and question up to 20 retired British soldiers over the Bloody Sunday shootings more than 40 years ago. The former troops, most in their sixties and seventies, will be questioned for murder, attempted murder or criminal injury. Some of the soldiers could face prosecution over their role in the incident in which troops opened fire on marchers, killing 14.

2. CLEGG AND GOVE IN SCHOOLS SPLIT

Nick Clegg has opened up a split within the coalition over free schools. The Liberal Democrat leader is to announce that he disagrees with Tory education secretary Michael Gove over the flexibility given to the schools and argue that they should be made to follow the national curriculum. Gove’s allies say Clegg misunderstands free schools.

3. IRAN TO SCRAP ‘DEATH TO AMERICA’ CHANT?

Iranian president Hassan Rouhani is attempting to abolish the ‘Death to America’ chant which has been a part of public life for almost 35 years. The slogan has been a unifying political message of the regime, broadcast on national television and echoed at mosques. Rouhani, keen to improve relations with the West, said: "We can stand against powers with prudence rather than with slogans.”

4. STEVE JOBS ‘A SEXIST BULLY’ SAYS EX

Steve Jobs was a pathological liar, a skinflint and a sexist, according to a tell-all biography written by his ex-girlfriend. The Apple founder, who died of cancer in 2011, is portrayed as a spoilt brat in Chrisann Brennan’s book The Bite In The Apple. She describes him as “positively despotic” and claims he once told her: “If women were good, they wouldn’t experience labour pain”.

5. ARCHBISHOP ATTACKS ENERGY FIRMS

The Archbishop of Canterbury has launched an attack on energy companies, telling them they must “show generosity” and not merely “maximise their profits”. Justin Welby, a former oil executive, shares anger over “inexplicable” price rises and said power giants have a “massive” moral duty. He spoke out after British Gas announced a 9.2% hike despite record profits.

6. POLICE STEP IN AS AMBULANCE COVER

Police cars are being forced to act as ambulances as accident and emergency departments struggle to cope, reveals a leaked log of incidents compiled from around the country. The police force stepped in after learning of waits of up to seven hours for ambulances. However, officers who step in to transport the gravely ill sometimes face disciplinary action if patients subsequently die.

7. CHRISTIAN LAUNCHES SABBATH CASE

A Christian care worker is to launch a test case in the court of appeal for the right to not work on a Sunday. Celestina Mba will argue that her employer has a duty to “reasonably accommodate” the beliefs of a Christian employee. If she wins the case, it would establish new rights in the workplace and could enable other Christians to refuse to work on the Sabbath.

8. SOAMES ATTACKS ‘DISGRACE’ AFRIYIE

Tory grandee Nicholas Soames directed an angry attack on Windsor MP Adam Afriyie in the Commons tea room. Soames, furious with Afriyie over his push to force an early referendum on EU membership, said: “You are a chateau bottled nuclear powered ****. You are totally f***ing disloyal, a f***ing disgrace to your party, your fellow MPs, your Prime Minister and your country.”

9. CALL TO TACKLE ‘MOTHERISM’ PREJUDICE

Prejudice against stay-at-home mothers is on the rise and must be confronted, warns a leading child development expert. Dr Aric Sigman said “motherism” assumes that full-time mothers are “subjugated and servile and even sexually unattractive”, and that “they have taken a step down both socially and intellectually but also in terms of esteem”.

10. UNITED HELD AS GUNNERS SOAR

Manchester United are eight in the Premier League table after drawing 1-1 with Southampton yesterday. Saints skipper Adam Lallana equalized with only a minute remaining to deny United victory. Arsenal remain top after beating Norwich 4-1 at the Emirates. Mesut Ozil scored twice but it was Jack Wilshere’s phenomenal opener that drew most praise.
