1. BORIS TO CHALLENGE CAMERON OVER EU
Boris Johnson is to tell David Cameron that he must be ready to leave the European Union if he wants a better deal from Brussels. The London mayor will declare that the UK must “not be frightened” of quitting the EU. His move will be seen as a throwing down of the gauntlet to the prime minister, whose position is in stark contrast to Johnson’s.
2. ISRAEL: MISSING SOLDIER IS DEAD
The Israeli army says a soldier reported missing in Gaza on Friday is dead. It was believed that Hadar Goldin was captured by militants during fighting. Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the operation will continue in Gaza. Meanwhile, Ed Miliband has accused David Cameron of “inexplicable silence” over the violence.
3. NHS CAFES ‘FUELLING OBESITY CRISIS’
NHS hospital cafes are helping to fuel the obesity crisis, claims the Sunday Telegraph. An investigation discovered that dozens of fast food restaurants, coffee bars and shops are selling discounted chocolate at hospitals. Health experts are telling the health service to “get its house in order” and clear its hospitals of fast food companies.

4. GLASGOW GAMES ‘TO BOOST YES CAMPAIGN’
The Commonwealth Games will hand the momentum to the ‘Yes’ campaign in the Scottish referendum debate, predicts the SNP. Speaking to The Observer, campaign leader Nicola Sturgeon said: "I do think the momentum is with us. I think, as we come out of the Commonwealth Games at the weekend, that is us in the final straight of the campaign and you will see that momentum quite visibly."
5. TRIBUTES PAID TO BBC DJ MIKE SMITH
Mike Read and Phillip Schofield have paid tribute to former BBC Radio 1 DJ Mike Smith, who has died at the age of 59. Smith died after complications connected to recent heart surgery. Read described Smith as “a very affable guy, fantastically business-like”, while Schofield said the late DJ was “wonderful, bright, funny [and] thoughtful”.
6. FOODIE BLANC SLAMS ORGANIC ‘ELITISM’
Raymond Blanc has hit out at the “elitism” of organic food and praised the ingredients made by McDonald’s. In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph, he said the organic movement “has shot itself in the foot” by becoming “elitist” and “expensive”. He also said some organic food tastes “simply terrible”. Speaking of McDonald’s he said their ingredients “amazed” him.
7. LIBYA: ROYAL NAVY TO EVACUATE BRITS
A Royal Navy ship is to evacuate British people from Libya as violence worsens in the country, says the BBC. A government source says that HMS Enterprise is on its way to Tripoli. The Foreign Office had already encouraged British people to leave the country immediately and is to temporarily close its embassy in the Libyan capital.
8. KARREN BRADY TO BE MADE TORY PEER
Apprentice star and West Ham United vice-chairmwoman Karren Brady will be made a Tory peer this week. Brady introduced George Osborne at the Conservative Party conference last year and has even been mentioned by party bosses as a potential candidate to replace Boris Johnson when he steps down as London mayor.
9. STUDY: MARRIED MEN ‘PILE ON WEIGHT’
Researchers claim to have confirmed what many have long suspected: that getting married makes men put on weight. An academic study, commissioned by the Men’s Health Forum charity, found that married men eat more buns, cakes, pastries and wholemeal bread than when they were single, and drink “significantly” more wine.
10. ENGLAND WILL TOP COMMONWEALTH TABLE
England guaranteed they will finish top of the Commonwealth Games medal table during a thrilling penultimate day at the Glasgow games. Tom Daley and Nicola Adams won golds in diving and boxing respectively yesterday to help England become the most successful nation at a Commonwealth Games for the first time in 28 years.
