1. TSB rebuked by regulator over IT meltdown

The Financial Conduct Authority has rebuked TSB for “not being open and transparent” with customers about a botched IT upgrade that resulted in 1.9 million people being locked out of their accounts earlier this year. The City regulator said that the bank’s communications were “poor” and “could reduce trust in TSB and in the banking sector as a whole”.

2. Hotel venue for Trump-Kim meeting revealed

US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will hold their historic summit at the five-star Capella hotel on the Singaporean island of Sentosa, the White House has revealed. Both sides have threatened to cancel the meeting, on 12 June, but it currently appears to be going ahead.

3. Corbyn softens Labour stance on Brexit

Jeremy Corbyn has committed his party to the “softest possible” Brexit, according to Labour sources who spoke to The Times. The Labour leader and his top team will vote next week for a Commons motion that calls for “full access” to the EU single market and “shared institutions and regulations” with Brussels, the newspaper says.

4. Guatemala volcano: almost 200 people missing

Officials in Guatemala say at least 192 people are missing, and 75 dead, following Sunday’s volcanic eruption. Villages on the slopes of the Fuego volcano were covered in ash and mud, and rescue work was disrupted by a fresh eruption of hot gas and molten rock. More than 3,000 people have been evacuated from the area since the weekend.

5. Weinstein pleads ‘not guilty’ to rape charges

Film producer Harvey Weinstein appeared in court yesterday in New York and pleaded not guilty to two charges of rape and one of a “criminal sexual act”. He has previously admitted misconduct but denied non-consensual sex. The 66-year-old posted bail of $1m (£750,000) following the hearing.

6. Fashion designer Kate Spade found dead

Fashion designer Kate Spade has been found dead in an apparent suicide, New York City officials say. The 55-year-old’s body was found by domestic staff in her Park Avenue apartment on Tuesday morning, along with a note written by Spade. Tributes have poured in on social media for the businesswoman.

7. Salisbury attack timing revealed by police

Investigators say the nerve agent used to poison former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia was smeared on the doorknob of their home no more than 24 hours before the pair collapsed. The substance is believed to have been put there after Yulia Skripal arrived in the UK on Saturday 3 March. By 4.15pm on Sunday, they were gravely ill.

8. Woman dies after eating frozen pomegranate

A woman has died in Australia after eating frozen pomegranate that was contaminated with hepatitis A. Health authorities say the 64-year-old is the only person to have died as a result of the contaminated batch of the fruit and that no further cases are expected. Other people who consumed the pomegranate were infected but have since recovered.

9. Andy Murray delays comeback from surgery

Tennis ace Andy Murray has put off his planned return to the sport following hip surgery, cancelling his games in the Libema Open in the Netherlands. The 31-year-old has not played since Wimbledon last year but hopes to fit in some competitive matches before this year’s tournament. He may play in the Fever-Tree Championships in London.

10. Briefing: what difference will Heathrow's new runway make?

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has confirmed the government’s plans for a third runway at Heathrow, and MPs are expected to vote on the proposal in the next three weeks.

A third runway at Heathrow “was given the green light in 2016, but remains a controversial matter for nearby residents, politicians from all parties, environmentalists and business leaders”, says Sky News.
