Arsenal face Spurs as Capital One Cup throws up local derbies
First north London showdown comes next month and Aston Villa are drawn against Birmingham
The first north London derby of the season has been brought forward by six weeks after Arsenal and Spurs were drawn against each other in the third round of the Capital One Cup.
The two sides will now meet at White Hart Lane on 22 or 23 September in the third round of the competition. Their first league meeting is not due until 8 November.
"The two sides have not faced each other in the competition since Arsenal won 4-1 at Tottenham in a match that went to extra time at the same stage of the competition five years ago," notes the Daily Telegraph.

It also means Arsenal will face Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United in the space of two weeks.
Spurs vs Arsenal is not the only big derby to look forward to. Premier League Aston Villa will host their bitter local rivals Birmingham City in what is likely to be the only meeting between the rivals this term.
There will also be a south London derby, after Charlton Athletic were drawn against their Premier League neighbours Crystal Palace.
Manchester City must face Sunderland, while other top-flight ties see Norwich face West Brom and Leicester play West Ham.
Manchester United face Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, Liverpool host Carlisle and Chelsea must travel to Walsall.
The only Premier League side not in the draw is Watford, who lost 1-0 to Preston North End on a night when Stoke and West Brom squeezed through on penalties and Aston Villa and Sunderland both conceded three against League Two opponents.

Manchester United v Ipswich Town
