Loch Ness Monster ‘is a sea turtle’
And other stories from the stranger side of life
A scientist has claimed that the Loch Ness Monster is an ancient species of sea turtle that has been trapped in the loch since waters receded at the end of the last Ice Age. Professor Henry Bauer says the iconic beast is a “yet-to-be-properly discovered and described variety of large sea turtle that is most likely also still extant in some niches in the oceans”.
Woman ‘dies’ for 37 seconds
A woman whose heart stopped beating for 37 seconds after she gave birth says she “saw her body from above” in the operating theatre. Stephanie Arnold, from Chicago, said she had premonitions that she was going to die giving birth to her second child when she was about 20 weeks into her pregnancy. Describing the moment itself, she says: “Everything came into a 3D movie and I could actually see outside of my body.”

Huge asteroid set to pass Earth
Nasa is tracking a huge asteroid that may be taller than the Eiffel Tower and is set to enter the Earth’s orbit. Boffins at the space administration’s centre for Near Earth Object Studies say the asteroid, which was first spotted in 1992, will once again pass Earth on Saturday. It will remain at a safe distance of 0.04733 AU, the equivalent of 4,398,286 Earth miles.
