Sanchez, Mane, Martial and Gabbiadini in team of the week

With Manchester City yet to play this week, Chelsea have a ten-point lead in the Premier League thanks to their draw with Burnley and Liverpool's victory over second-placed Spurs.

City could cut the Blues' lead to eight points with a win over Bournemouth, but the real drama looks to be unfolding in the race for second, third and fourth in the table, with just two points now separating sixth place from second.

Wins for Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United means things are incredibly tight in the race for the Champions League, but Everton's draw with Middlesbrough leaves them seven points behind the top six and surely out of the running.

At the bottom, Leicester's nightmarish title defence continued with defeat to Swansea. They are now only one point and one place above the relegation zone.

But who were the stars of the show this weekend? Here's The Week's pick of the experts' picks.

Goalkeeper: Victor Valdes (Middlesbrough)

"A very solid display from the Boro stopper to keep the Toffees at bay and grab what could prove to be a crucial point," says the Daily Mirror.

Defence: Martin Olsson, Alfie Mawson (both Swansea), Michael Keane (Burnley), Ryan Bertrand (Southampton)

Both Swansea's scorers against champions Leicester make the team and earn similar accolades from the experts. Olsson gets the nod from Garth Crooks of the BBC, who says: "He is clearly very comfortable on the ball and calm in front of goal. He absolutely hammered his shot past Kasper Schmeichel to put Swansea 2-0 up and condemn Leicester to a relegation dogfight for the rest of the season."

Mawson "is some find", says Jason Burt of the Daily Telegraph: "Assured on the ball, willing to build the play from the back he is also imposing and has an eye for goal. Scored with a brilliant volley."

Keane impressed Goal.com with his display against league leaders Chelsea on Sunday. "Keane won 83 per cent of his duels against Chelsea and made two blocks," says the website.

Bertrand "had a field day as his side smashed four past Sunderland", reports ESPN. "The 27-year-old was a menace down the left for the Saints, setting up Manolo Gabbiadini's opener and forcing Jason Denayer's own goal for the third."

Midfield: Manuel Lanzini (West Ham), Juan Mata, Anthony Martial (both Manchester United), Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Lanzini was in fine form for the Hammers against West Brom. "The Argentine had a hand in both goals as he continues to impressively step into Dimitri Payet's playmaking shoes for the Hammers," says the Daily Mirror.

Mata scored against Watford to earn a place in Jamie Redknapp's team for the Daily Star, while Burt of the Telegraph says the player is not always a starter under Jose Mourinho, but "he continues to influence proceedings when he does feature".

Martial is another player struggling to win over the Old Trafford boss, but he too scored against the Hornets. "[He] has been involved in more Premier League goals for United than any other player since his debut," says Goal.com.

Spurs will be "having nightmares" about Mane says ESPN. "Two goals in as many minutes blew Mauricio Pochettino's men away and, in truth, the Liverpool man could have had three or four before the first half was done with." The Senegal star was also the highest points scorer in Fantasy Premier League this week, with 16.

Attack: Manolo Gabbiadini (Southampton), Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

Gabbiadini scored twice for Saints against Sunderland and reminds Crooks of the BBC of Filippo Inzaghi. "His goal last week against West Ham made me sit up and take notice but his two against a battered Sunderland were moments of predatory genius," he says, even if one came off his arm.

Sanchez also scored with his arm as he netted twice against Hull. Those goals "and a typically all-action display" provided a "much-needed cutting edge on a tricky afternoon for the Gunners", says the Daily Mirror.
