MPs are in the spotlight and the firing line following further allegations of sleaze and reports of drunken antics during an official overseas trip.
Former attorney general Geoffrey Cox made headlines after being referred to the Commons standards commissioner. The Tory MP is accused of breaching parliamentary rules by using his Commons office to defend the government of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) in a corruption case brought by the UK Foreign Office.
And Cox faced further criticism after being named as one of a group of MPs found to be claiming taxpayers’ money to fund London rental payments while also letting out property in the capital.
