Another tough week for Boris Johnson ended with yet more scandal amid reports that a further two lockdown parties took place at No. 10 on the eve of Prince Philip’s funeral.
Downing Street apologised to the Queen after The Telegraph revealed that as she “was preparing to grieve alone” owing to Covid restrictions, No. 10 staff danced into the early hours, with one dispatched to a local supermarket with a suitcase that “was then filled with bottles of wine and brought back”.
A spokesperson for Johnson said the parties were “deeply regrettable”, but added that the prime minister did not attend either of the leaving bashes. The row has raised fresh questions about Johnson’s future, however, with his potential successors beginning to circle.
