The couple met the previous year and after much speculation their relationship was confirmed in early November 2016, in an unprecedented statement from the palace asking for the “abuse and harassment” of Markle and her family by the media to end.
Despite this confirmation, it took until the following September for the couple to make their first appearance in public, after being photographed together at the Invictus Games in London.
Since then, the couple have been at several royal engagements, making their first official visits to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the first few months of 2018.
Harry and Meghan set the date for the royal wedding for 19 May so as not to clash with the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child, Louis Arthur Charles, who was born on 23 April.
As many as 10,000 people are expected to descend on Windsor for the day, says the BBC, with the wedding and procession televised around the world. A single pool camera will capture the nuptials so many channels will be able to broadcast it to millions across the globe, The Daily Telegraph says.
