Ten years ago today, the Pacers and Pistons threw down in one of the strangest, scariest, and darkest fights in NBA history.
A hard foul at the end of a chippy game led to a benches-clearing brawl that soon spilled into the stands after a fan threw a cup of liquid on the infamously pugnacious Metta World Peace, née Ron Artest. Players pummeled fans. Fans hurled drinks and snacks at the players. A few ticketholders who were brave or drunk or stupid or all of the above rushed the floor only to be wailed on some more.
The brawl led to 146 games-worth of suspensions. Artest later claimed he rushed the stands in self-defense.
