Republicans ahead in early results for Alaska Senate race

Republicans might be on the verge of picking up yet another Senate seat, way up north in Alaska.
With 46 percent of the vote reporting, Republican former state attorney general Dan Sullivan has 50 percent support, followed by Democratic Sen. Mark Begich with 44 percent. The exit poll data also looks very favorable for Sullivan.
However, it can also take quite a while in Alaska for votes to be counted in a close race, with the absentee ballots are tabulated over an extended period of time. Back in 2008, Begich himself did not take the lead over Republican Sen. Ted Stevens until nearly a week after Election Day.
