Three-chord pop-punk band Green Day headlines a slate of 15 nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2015.
The trio, who rose to fame with an album whose title is a euphemism for feces, are joined on the ballot by fellow first-timers Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths, and deceased Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed. Also up for induction are, among others, Sting, Kraftwerk, the Marvelettes, and seminal rap group N.W.A., who have been nominated for a third time.
A panel of 700 journalists and industry folk will vote on the nominees. Fans can also cast ballots that will go toward determining who gets on, and who stays out.
