Twilight is coming back as a series of short movies
It's been just two years since the conclusion of the insanely lucrative Twilight movie series, but Lions Gate is hungry for more: The studio is reviving the franchise by commissioning five short films set in the Twilight universe.
The Twilight "mini-movies" are part of a larger effort designed to give women more opportunities in the film industry. The shorts will be directed by five female filmmakers hand-selected by a panel that includes Twilight alums including author Stephenie Meyer, director Catherine Hardwicke, and star Kristen Stewart.
The short films will premiere exclusively on Facebook next year, and Lions Gate Vice Chairman Michael Burns hints that this is just the first phase in what could be a larger strategy to make Twilight a top-tier franchise again: "This is the just the beginning — a template, if you will."
