Following a night of relative calm in Ferguson, Missouri, tensions flared again on Friday.
Police released the name of the officer who shot Michael Brown a week ago, but officials did so in conjunction with video evidence that the 18-year-old had also been a suspect in a convenience store robbery earlier that day. However, in a later Friday press conference, Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson noted that the officer had not known Brown "was a suspect in the case."
The new developments prompted anger and more questions from residents and demonstrators. Some began looting, breaking into nearby stores, while many more demonstrators attempted to protect the city's retail outlets, blocking entrances to the would-be vandals.
