J.P. Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon diagnosed with throat cancer

Jamie Dimon, the chairman and CEO of J.P. Morgan Chase, announced Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with throat cancer.

In a memo to the company's employees and shareholders, Dimon, 58, said the cancer was discovered at an early stage and that his prognosis is "excellent." He also assured employees that he will still be actively involved with the company and that his diagnosis won't effect the company's day-to-day operations as he undergoes chemotherapy treatment.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Dimon will undergo radiation and chemotherapy for about eight weeks, during which time he will limit his travels. He has already canceled a planned five-country client trip that was slated to include visits with Italy and Greece's prime ministers.

Dimon's announcement came on the 10-year anniversary of his time at J.P. Morgan, which he joined in 2004.

"Importantly, there is no evidence of cancer elsewhere in my body," Dimon wrote in the memo. "I feel very good now and will let all of you know if my health situation changes."
