Mike Huckabee: 'I'm not a hater. I'm not homophobic'

Former Arkansas governor and Fox News host Mike Huckabee on Tuesday stopped by Iowa, the state that propelled his 2008 presidential campaign to viability, to deliver the keynote address at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition's spring fundraiser. And in front of the friendly crowd, Huckabee defended his opposition to same-sex marriage, explaining that though he doesn't have a problem with gay people, the Bible does.

"I'm not a hater. I'm not homophobic," he said.

"This for me is not about the right side or the wrong side of history," he added, "this is the right side of the Bible, and unless God rewrites it, edits it, sends it down with his signature on it, it's not my book to change."

Huckabee may be considering a second run at the White House in 2016, and he'd be a formidable opponent were he to join the GOP primary. With the standard disclaimer in mind that it's still super early, Huckabee has done well in polls of the GOP race; a survey earlier this month placed him first in, yep, Iowa.
