Washington State mudslide's death toll rises to 8, with a dozen still missing
The death toll from a mudslide near Oso, Washington has risen to eight, from three. Four bodies were found late Sunday, while one was discovered earlier in the day. The debris wall from the mudslide, which destroyed close to 30 homes on Saturday morning, is 1.5 miles across and 15 to 20 feet deep, reports Seattle's King-TV. Gov. Jay Inslee (D) says the area looks like "a square mile of total devastation." With more than a dozen people unaccounted for, rescue crews are still in "search and rescue mode," says Snohomish County Fire District 21 Chief Travis Hots. "It has not gone to a recovery mode at this time." --Catherine Garcia
