Report: Kamala Harris to run for U.S. Senate in California

California Attorney General Kamala Harris (D) is expected to announce on Tuesday that she will enter the 2016 U.S. Senate Race, following Sen. Barbara Boxer's announcement that she will not seek a fifth term.
An aide to Harris who asked for anonymity told The Sacramento Bee they believe she will be the first candidate to declare their intention to run. "This isn't a trial balloon," the aide said. "This is a takeoff."
Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) posted on Facebook that he does not plan to enter the race, while former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and billionaire Tom Steyer have said they are contemplating putting campaigns together. On the Republican side, possible candidates include Assemblyman Rocky Chavez and former state GOP chairmen Tom Del Baccaro and Duf Sundheim.
