Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant has a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, the team announced Thursday.

Bryant injured his shoulder Wednesday night in a loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, and the preliminary results from an MRI showed the tear. The severity of the tear is not yet known, but given that recovery can take months, and that the Lakers are mired at the bottom of the league standings, it's possible Bryant could sit out the rest of the season.
