Maryland court to allow appeal in Adnan Syed 'Serial' case

Adnan Syed will be allowed to appeal his conviction of murdering his ex-girlfriend, a case popularized by the Serial podcast, The Washington Post reports.
The Maryland Court of Special Appeals filed its decision on Friday, and Syed's lawyers can now move forward with the appeals process, which can include the presentation of new evidence.
A former classmate, Asia McClain, says she can provide an alibi for Syed in the 1999 murder of former girlfriend and high school classmate Hae Min Lee. McClain did not testify in the 2000 trial, but she has since said that she remembers speaking with Syed outside the public library at the time of Lee's murder — and that she would now be willing to testify.
