In one of the weirder finishes you'll ever see to an NCAA Tournament game, UCLA on Thursday defeated SMU despite technically missing its final desperation shot.
With his team trailing by two with seconds remaining, UCLA's Bryce Alford heaved a three-pointer that looked off the mark. But an SMU big man, believing the ball was safely away from the rim so he could snatch the rebound, touched the ball too soon, triggering a goaltending call.
It's a borderline call, but one that looks right, per the letter of the law. Judge for yourself.
