Police: 'No evidence' to support Rolling Stone rape story

At a news conference Monday, Charlottesville, Virginia, police said that there is "no evidence" to support Rolling Stone's grisly account of a campus rape at the University of Virginia.

The article described the brutal gang rape of a woman identified only as "Jackie" at a fraternity house. However, the police investigation revealed that there was no party held on the night of the alleged gang rape.

Police added that "Jackie" did not provide a police statement, and The Associated Press reports that she refused to cooperate with police.

However, the police added that the lack of evidence in the case "doesn't mean something terrible didn't happen." The investigation has been suspended, and police noted at the conference that the case is "not closed."
