A white reserve deputy sheriff in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was charged on Monday with second-degree manslaughter after fatally shooting a black suspect earlier this month. The deputy, 73-year-old Robert Bates, shot Eric Harris during a police sting after allegedly mistaking his own gun for a Taser.
Over the weekend, police released video of the incident, in which Bates is heard exclaiming, "Oh, I shot him. I'm sorry." The charges come one week after a South Carolina police officer, Michael Slager, was charged with murder in the shooting death of an unarmed black man, Walter Scott. — Jon Terbush
