Aaron Hernandez found guilty of murder
A jury on Wednesday found former NFL star Aaron Hernandez guilty of first-degree murder in the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd. Following the verdict, a judge sentenced Hernandez to life in prison with no parole.
The 25-year-old Hernandez and two associates, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace, were accused of driving Lloyd — a semipro football player who was dating Hernandez's fiancee's sister — to an industrial park near Hernandez's home and shooting him to death there. Prosecutors argued that Hernandez pulled the trigger, claiming he did so after becoming enraged after a dispute with Lloyd at a Boston bar.
Security camera footage obtained from Hernandez's home on the night of the incident showed Hernandez walking through his house with a gun. However, investigators never recovered the murder weapon, and the case rested largely on circumstantial evidence.
