David Letterman's farewell tour just keeps getting stranger. His guest on Thursday's show, Tina Fey, made her 20th appearance wearing a lovely blue dress — "This is like something Kate Middleton would show up in," Letterman said, as a compliment — but it turned out to be a prop.

"This is it, I'm never going to wear a fancy dress on a talk show again," Fey said, slyly poking fun at Letterman's competitors: "What, am I going to put a dress on for Jimmy? That's creepy, he's like my brother. I'm going to wear special underwear for James Corden? That's not going to happen. So the next time you see me I'll be playing charades in a Slanket." Then she got down to business. It's a lot of work to dress up, she said, and she realized she does it "out of respect for you," she told Letterman, and "my gift to you is, I want to give you the dress." She does. Letterman is a little unnerved, but it's mostly safe for work. Watch below. —Peter Weber
