North Carolina reports its fourth shark attack in 2 weeks

Cue the Jaws theme song. An eight-year-old boy just became the fourth victim of a shark bite in a two-week span in North Carolina. While swimming in knee-deep water about five blocks from a fishing pier in Surf City, North Carolina on Wednesday, the boy suffered minor injuries after being bitten by a shark. Town manager Larry Bergman said the boy suffered minor wounds on his lower leg, heel, and ankle that were treated on the scene by emergency personnel.
This attack comes not even two weeks after three other shark attacks in the vicinity. On June 11, a 13-year-old girl suffered minor cuts on her foot after being bitten by a shark at Ocean Isle Beach. Just three days after that attack, two teens had to have arm amputations following separate shark-attack incidents just 90 minutes away from Ocean Isle Beach in Oak Island, North Carolina. The victims are ages 12 and 16, respectively, and are both recovering from their injuries.
At least in Surf City, business will continue as usual. The town manager said that they will not ban swimmers from the beaches, nor will they offer warnings of the recent shark bites. However, the town does plan to ramp up police beach controls.
