This man lost more than Swaziland's entire annual GDP on Monday
If you thought your portfolio took a huge hit on Monday, know that someone was rocked with a bigger one — a lot bigger. The richest person in Asia, Wang Jianlin, lost a whopping $3.6 billion during Monday's stock market slump, China's biggest in eight years, Time reports. To put that chunk of money into perspective, that's roughly the equivalent of the entire annual GDP of Swaziland.
Wang lost about $2 billion when the Dalian Wanda Commercial Property stocks fell, and took another sizable hit when the value of Wanda Cinema Line dropped, Time reports. Back in June, when Chinese stocks peaked, Wang's net worth stood about $13 billion higher than it did on Monday.
Collectively, the world's richest 400 people lost about $124 billion in Monday's market plunge, according to Time. Thankfully, the stocks appeared to be climbing toward recovery Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumping more than 300 points shortly after the opening bell.
