On the last day of the fiscal year, the Senate on Wednesday overwhelmingly passed a temporary spending measure to keep the government up and running through December 11, averting a government shutdown. The spending bill will move to the House later in the day, where it is expected to pass thanks to strong support from Democrats.
While Republicans had threatened a government shutdown to gain leverage in the fight over federal funding for Planned Parenthood, The Hill reports that "GOP leaders appear to have avoided, for now, [that] prospect."
The House has until midnight to pass the stopgap measure.
