Republicans' 'free stuff' line has surfaced once again, this time in connection with last night's Democratic debate. As Republican presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) sees it, Democrats Tuesday night were competing over "who was going to give away the most free stuff."
"If you watched the debate last night it looked like something from the early '80s," Rubio said Wednesday on Fox and Friends. "It was basically a liberal versus liberal debate about who was going to give away the most free stuff: Free college education, free college education for people illegally in this country, free health care, free everything. Their answer to every problem in America is a government program and a tax increase."
Rubio's comment echoes one made by Rubio's fellow Floridian contender Jeb Bush, who offered this comment about his plans to reach out to black voters: "Our message is one of hope and aspiration. It isn't one of division and get in line and we'll take care of you with free stuff."
