20 years later, the cast of The Baby-Sitters Club reunites
It's been 20 years since The Baby-Sitters Club movie premiered in theaters, inspiring young teens everywhere to grab their Kid Kits and start charging the parents in their neighborhood a couple of dollars an hour for the chance to prove they were as responsible as Kristy, as sensitive as Mary Anne, as sophisticated as Stacey, and, in a lot of cases, as clueless as Claudia.
The movie, based on the popular book series by Ann M. Martin, was all about the girls setting up a day camp for kids in Mary Anne and Dawn's gigantic backyard, while juggling young romance, the return of a deadbeat dad, an irritated neighbor, and summer school for Claudia (who was able to pass science thanks to the BSC-penned rap "the brain, the brain, the center of the chain"). While it isn't Citizen Kane, the movie does have enough fans to have warranted a special screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin on Tuesday, attended by stars Rachael Leigh Cook (Mary Anne), Bre Blair (Stacey), Larisa Oleynik (Dawn), Marla Sokoloff (Cokie), Schuyler Fisk (Kristy), and Stacey Ramsower (Mallory), as well as director Melanie Mayron. The only actresses missing were Tricia Joe (Claudia), who likely couldn't find a funky-enough outfit to wear, and Zelda Harris (Jessi), who was probably off doing pirouettes somewhere.
The gang seemed thrilled to be together again, taking tons of photos and posting them on social media. The pictures will definitely spark nostalgic feelings for fans, but if The Baby-Sitters Club wasn't your thing, just pretend Alex Mack was hanging out with Laney Boggs, while Gia from Full House tried to get them to go smoke in the bathroom.
