Former President Jimmy Carter said during a Sunday school lesson that his cancer is gone, a close friend of his told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution while the event at Maranatha Baptist Church was still in session.
"He said he got a scan this week and the cancer was gone," Jill Stuckey said. "The church, everybody here, just erupted in applause."
Carter, 91, announced in August he was undergoing treatment for melanoma. In November, doctors said he was responding well to treatment and showed no signs of new cancer.
