Historians may have finally found the tomb of the Ottoman Empire's longest-ruling sultan
Hundreds of years after Suleiman the Magnificent died in 1566, Hungarian historians believe they may have finally found the tomb of the Ottoman Empire's longest-ruling sultan. It is believed to be built over the very spot where Suleiman died at age 71 while besieging the fortress of Szigetvar in southern Hungary. "We have data which all points in the same direction," historian Norbert Pap said. "But more confirmation is needed, as this is a very delicate topic."
Suleiman ruled the Ottoman Empire for 46 years, during which the Turks expanded their power in the Balkans, the Middle East, and northern Africa.
