Two U.S. naval vessels, containing 10 American sailors, have been detained by the Iranian military on Iran's Farsi Island in the Persian Gulf and the crew has reportedly been taken into custody, U.S. officials said Tuesday. The boats may have experienced mechanical failure during a training mission and drifted into Iranian territory before being captured. A U.S. official told NBC News that Iran understands the incident was a mistake and will reportedly release the sailors soon.

This is the second incident between Iranian and U.S. military inside of a month. On Dec. 30, the U.S. accused Iran of firing missiles dangerously close to the USS Harry S. Truman in the Strait of Hormuz.
