Tornadoes that made their way through Mississippi and Alabama on Tuesday damaged houses, a community college, a Baptist church, and a federal prison.
At least four tornadoes were reported in Mississippi, the National Weather Service said. In Scooba, East Mississippi Community College announced it sustained structural damage, while several buildings at the First Baptist Church in Collinsville were also damaged. In Pickens County, Alabama, a "large and extremely dangerous tornado" caused destruction in Aliceville, downing power lines and damaging the administrative building at the federal prison. No injuries have been reported in Mississippi or Alabama.
The tornadoes were part of the same weather system that brought a blizzard to the Great Plains, NBC News reports. The National Weather Service says "additional storms are lining up in east Mississippi on a track to affect western Alabama," and residents should be prepared for tornadoes, showers, and winds into the morning.
